Alex Murdaugh Trial Update (Part 7)

Because a lot happened on this day in court, I believed it would be best to break up what was going on into two separate articles so I really could dive into what I was writing about. In this article, I am covering the Snapchat that was sent to Rogan Gibson, a close friend of Paul’s seconds before the double homicide happened, as well as Rogan Gibson’s appearance in court, and Will Loving, another close friend of Paul.  Both testimonies and questionings were interesting too which is why I believed it was best to separate the two from Britt Dove's and Brian Varnadoe’s.

The Snapchat video from Paul is released to the public. The video for me is so freaky to watch because it is the last piece of evidence of Paul being alive. But, the importance of this video is incomparable. Also, having Rogan Gibson, the person who received this video be next on the stand was a great move on behalf of the prosecution because it is fresh in the head of the jury, and the person who received it was going to not only discuss the video, but a lot of other things involving Paul, Alex, and Maggie, so having this much evidence is incredibly beneficial for the prosecution.

Rogan Gibson was the next person brought to the stand. He is one of Paul’s closest friends. He said Paul was quick to answer messages and always had his phone on him. The dog that was videoed via Snapchat belonged to Rogan, and Paul had asked him if something was wrong with his tail which is why they called, but reception was bad so he sent the Snapchat video instead, except the video never made it to Rogan. He then tried to call Maggie and Paul, but neither responded. Then between 5-5:30 am the next day, he received the news that the two had passed. In the call log you see several calls that Rogan made to Paul that were never answered, as well as texts. But, interestingly enough, in the video sent, Rogan says that the voice is that of Alex. In the presented video, the prosecution asked if either party seemed stressed, to which Rogan said they did not, he also said there were guns left at the kennels. He also said that any threats Paul received after the boat crash were nothing serious. He said Paul never let his phone battery run low, but that the service by the kennels was bad. This was a nice perspective to have and a good witness to bring to the stand because it was someone who truly knew the family, and the property, and had received the video that had just been watched

Another one of Paul’s friends, Will Loving, takes the stand. He confirms that occasionally there were guns by the kennels. He also said that at 7:56 pm, Paul sent him a Snapchat video of him and Alex riding around the ranch. He discusses that Paul did use his phone a lot, that he responded to texts fast, and that he found out about the murders through a cousin in the family. He says that in the video, the three voices were Maggie, Paul, and Alex. He said the last time he saw was Labor Day Weekend, which was about two weeks before the murders. Will says he went to Moselle Road to see Alex, and that he was so upset that he could not speak. Will was another great witness to bring to the stand because he also knew the family and the property.
