As we get closer to the preliminary hearing the case of Bryan Kohberger continues to get more bizarre, although we do not receive new information from the legal perspective about the following case due to a gag order placed on it, we often receive information through the media about the killer, the families, and the extensive bizarre concepts surrounding all parties that are involved, also, the list of bizarre characters involved in the case continues to grow, 2 of the people were my subjects of interest within the essay alone. The case of the stabbings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernoodle, and Ethan Chapin is very different from a run-of-the-mill murder, and due to the way the quadruple murders took over social media, especially TikTok as everything began to unfold, the internet put the quadruple murders on a pedestal, thus, every type of bizarre situation that could take place is taking place, and so, as well as Bryan Kohberger, who is commonly blasted all over social media, drew more attention to it. The biggest example of the love that has come about by the public for Bryan would be the Subreddit titled “Brynation” has come about. One person, who is notorious for being in admiration with Bryan, posted a photo that shows a payment of $50 put into Bryan’s commentary for Valentine’s Day for him with the caption “early Valentine’s gift for Bry, I hope he enjoys it.” As seen on the subReddit, several comments, after were people asking how to go about sending Bryan money, as it was a common wish to do the same for him. Some of the featured posts under the Subreddit include people asking questions like “What was it about Bryan Kohberger that got your liking?”, “Are we sick because we like Bryan?,” and “Do you guys think Bryan knows about us?” A poll came about by one of the users asking if the users under the page were “hybristophilia,” meaning someone who finds an attraction to criminals. If a professional were to see this, a comment from them would likely go along the lines of having a fanbase for a perpetrator is not normal for a run-of-the-mill murder trial, but we have that the case at hand is an extreme situation, which has led to bizarre behavior, like this, from the public.

The other concept that was of interest that was covered in the short essay written was the “fan club” that has come about since Bryan’s arrest and some of the weird behavior that has happened in a subReddit that is a cause for concern.
