Young Thug

Young Thug is one of the most accredited rappers in recent years, Young Thug is currently in jail over a RICO case, which has now developed into a case of a potential gang. His label and lyrics have been used as evidence against him in court. YSL, which is his label, has been labeled as a gang. Some of the things that people in this gang have been charged with include murders, robberies, gun violence, and drug trafficking, just to name a few. Young Thug has been in jail since May 2022 and is claimed to be the “mastermind” behind this gang.

According to recent articles, this started when a defendant received a piece of clothing from Young Thug that had weed in it. I want to know who got the free green and didn’t just keep their mouth shut, people would do a lot for a gram of Thugger gas. I believe it is more than this one piece of evidence that is finally busted YSL, this was for sure something that had been investigated for a long time, but this one piece of evidence is what was enough to bust everything that is going on.

One of the most shocking aspects of the trial is who all has taken a plea deal in this case. 8b people have accepted a plea deal so far. Gunna, another huge rapper, as well as Slimelife Shawty and even his brother, Unfoonk have switched up and taken plea deals. Not only is it huge to have a name like Young Thug on a case, but to include another rapper as huge as Gunna is just as insane. There are a few rappers that were already this famous before getting locked up like this in a while, the one that does come to mind would be Kodak Black.

Jury selection has taken three weeks for this case, as 20 hardships have been granted. Jury selection will begin again on Tuesday, as Monday is a holiday. This trial is supposed to last around 6-9 months, which is an insane amount of time. There is a lot of information and a lot of felony charges involved with this case so it will take a lot of time to search through everything. Young Stoner Life records were founded in 2016, giving 6 going on 7 years of evidence for both the prosecution and defense to sort through. It will take a lot of time, which is why I believe so many hardships can be granted, it is hard to be a part of a case as large as this one for such a long period, especially if someone has a job that requires them to be away from it for that long.

Some of the lyrics that have been used in the court as evidence would be from the song “Slatty” which has lyrics like “I killed his man in front of his momma, like fiick lil bruh, sister, and his cousin” and “I shoot out and kill ‘em, not leaving a trace”. I do not believe lyrics should be used in a court of law because a lot of rappers rap about killing people, and a lot of lyrics are cap. For example, G-Eazy talks about sleeping with absolute 10s and we all know that the only people he is having sex with are his fans that have just reached 18 and just want to post the TikTok that they slept with a famous rapper. We all know he can’t swear on any Bible that he is banging models. Two similar cases where rappers have had their lyrics used in their trial would be YNW Melly and Tay-K, who had famous songs about murder.
