Bryan Kohberger Update

January 12th, Bryan Kohberger had a preliminary court hearing over his five charges from the quadruple Idaho murders. Although not too much came out during this because it was short, but, there is enough information to push to the public.

The scholarship started by Sigma Chi, Ethan Chapin’s fraternity has raised over $112,000. This is a positive note that I found appropriate to start with. This tragedy has caused a lot of harm to the families and friends of the victims. And somewhere like a fraternity, there is so much sadness amongst the brothers. For this much money to be raised by the community in honor of Ethan Chapin and the victims is beautiful and it shows that there can be some form of good in the bad.

A bodycam video of Kaylee Goncalves, months before the murders, has been released. The video brings light to Kaylee making her become so much more genuine in the eyes of the public. One of my questions though is how will this be used in the case. I have seen the theories that the defense may use to their benefit, but for me, it brings me a sense of sadness, it shows how she truly was as a person.

When in court today, Bryan Kohberger came in with cuts on his face. At first, Twitter went insane with various theories of what could have happened to him, but it has come out that they were just shaving cuts, which makes perfect sense. In prison, you are not able to have a dollarshaveclub razor, therefore Bryan is going through it having to use a regular razor. He is a high-profile prisoner, therefore they are keeping him sanctioned from the other people in the jail to prevent anything from happening to him.

Bryan Kohberder and his defense team have requested that his next court appearance will not take place until June, waiving the right to a speedy trial. This, for the defense, is probably the smartest move. As of right now, the defense is struggling with how they are going to get him off with so much evidence pointing towards him, so they need the five months to decide whether it is more beneficial for them to take a plea deal, or if they are going to try to prove him as innocent, what exactly is the best route to go with this case.

Bryan’s reasoning for being in Idaho was “because the shopping is better there”. This is probably the weirdest defense that I have heard for why someone was in a different state. Like if you’re going to lie, come up with something like considering moving there or something. But, this is the same man who was a criminal justice major that deeply messed up a quadruple murder so I shouldn’t expect much out of him.

Bryan remarks to his neighbor that this was a “crime of passion” and that it appeared that there were no leads.  This is interesting to think about because this follows the common theory that he was following the case in depth does appear true after hearing these details. So, I think now it is best to pull search records from his computer and phone to better guarantee the prosecution locks up Bryan Kohbereger.
