Steve Lacy

I only know Steve Lacy from TikTok if you want me to be completely honest, but I like the songs I know so I decided to further explore his music. I am excited to do this as well as share it with you all.

The song I started with is super basic, I chose “Static” because I like the melodic vibe of this song so I found it the best place to start. I listen to this song all the time which is why I was so inspired to learn more about him. I rate this song a 10 with no doubt.

“Cocky Girl” was a song I had never heard before but I liked it a lot. It was a different vibe than “Static” but I liked it and found it harmonic with what I have seen from his other music which I like. I gave it an 8.

One of his most famous songs came on next. Of course, I have heard “Dark Red” before as this was the song that inspired me to do this deep dive. I love this song so much. My rating for it is a 10.

The fourth song I listened to was “Red” which I had never heard before but I believe it fits the vibe of Steve Lacy’s other music so I enjoyed listening to it. It was not my favorite so I ended up rating it a 7.

“Bad Habit” came on next and according to Spotify, this is Steve Lacy’s biggest song. I like this song but I can not agree that it is his best song. But, I do really like this song so I will rate it as an 8.

Off the same album, “Sunshine” played. As you all know, I love a song with features. This one featured Fousheé whose voice I love more than anything. I am shocked this song isn’t bigger. I rate it a 10.

The seventh song that played was “Amandla’s Interlude”. I feel very biased when I write about interludes because they are one of my favorite parts of albums, so this was an obvious 9 for me because it was a beautiful interlude.

“Ryd” played next on my list. One thing I noticed as I listened to this EP is that the songs are all very coherent with one another. I always appreciate this in EPs and albums, especially if there is a good vibe like this one, I rated this song an 8.

The ninth song that played was “Infruami”. This song, in my opinion, is a lot different than the usual Steve Lacy vibe, but it does appear to be coherent with the rest of his work. I went ahead and gave this song a rating of 10.

I ended this dive with “Only If”. Similar to “Infruami”, it was a different vibe than I usually think of when I think of Steve Lacy, but I enjoyed it a lot. So, I got to end this dive on a positive note and rated this song a 10.

I enjoyed getting to get a better sense of Steve Lacy’s music. I was also really shocked with my ending score for him, which I believe is the highest score that I’ve given, my average was a 9 which proves what a good artist Steve Lacy is.
