I do not think that I have listened to a ScHoolboy Q song that I did not like, but I do not listen to him that much which is why I chose to do a deep dive into his music. I am excited to explore him deeper as an artist.
I started with ScHoolboy Q’s song biggest song, “Collard Greens”. If you have been anywhere in the world since this song has come out, you have probably heard it. The Kendrick Lamar feature makes it even better. I give this song a 10.
The second track that came on was “Dangerous” which featured Kid Cudi. This song is a lot different than the usual ScHoolboy Q vibe, but I believed it was a good mash between Cudi's and ScHoolboy Q’s vibe so I rated it an 8.
“Hoover Street” played next, and although I had thought I listened to the entire Oxymoron album, I had never heard this song. The rock vibe of this song was interesting to see from ScHoolboy Q so I rated it a 9.
A ScHoolboy Q classic came on next. “Crazy” is one of the less popular songs from the Setbacks album but it is one of my favorite ScHoolboy Q songs. This is my favorite album from him and I could dive into it alone. But, I give this song a 10 because I love it.
The fifth song that played was “Drunk” which featured 6LACK. 6LACK is another artist I would not mind exploring. But, this song did throw me off, it was not a good song. I rated it a 5, but 6LACK’s part saved it.
“Dope Dealer” came on next. This was the song that got me to start actively listening to E-40 because his feature is so good. I am glad it did because he is an incredible rapper. I rate this song a 10 with no doubt.
“2 Raw” was the next song. I never really listened to this album, but I was excited about this song because it had a Jay Rock feature. A lot of the work that ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock have done together is very iconic and this song follows that. I rated this song an 8.
The eighth song I listened to was “Kamikaze” which is also one of the ScHoolboy Q classics. Old ScHoolboy Q, in my opinion, will be so underrated for no good reason. I rated this song an 8 because it isn’t my favorite.
Next was “Gangsta In Designer (No Concept)”, this song is very different when it comes to the beat behind it than a usual ScHoolboy Q song, but the lyrics are very ScHoolboy Q. I rated this song a 7 because I liked it but it was not my favorite.
My final song was “CrasH”. This was one of ScHoolboy Q’s biggest songs from this album but I have never enjoyed it. I do not think it is his best work in the slightest which makes me question why it is so popular. My rating for this is a 6.
I think this was my favorite music analysis that I have done so far. I have always been a fan of ScHoolboy Q so this was a fun one to do. My ending rating for this song was 8.1 which was lower than I expected but some songs did throw me off.
