I am a huge fan of Discolines and have listened to him for a while now, I had the opportunity to meet him and he is hands down one of the nicest people I’ve met in my entire life. He recently released his set from EDC Orlando and I decided to review it today.
He started the set with the remix he did of Control. I love this song personally so I did not mind it at all as an intro. I also liked that he started the set with an original mix because it gets to show his talent as a DJ. The set started almost darker than what I usually see from him but I liked this vibe. When he went into his flip of “Unwritten”, I loved that because that was one of the songs that inclined me to listen to him.
After the beginning, the set slowly transitioned into more of a Disco Lines set, but I liked how he did the intro for this set. Though, I did miss the peppy vibe that he usually channels within his set. He also used a lot of his music at the beginning which I believe also projected a better vibe for his set, I believe people who went to see Disco Lines appreciated this as well truly.
Later into his set, Disco Lines goes into more of the techno vibe which I like and found appropriate for the music festival he was attending. Although I am only about 20 minutes into his set, from my apartment in Tuscaloosa, I am feeling lit listening to it so to be able to be there in the crowd would be incredibly cool. I also like how he channeled various vibes so early in his set, I believe this is the best way to get gauge the crowd that he is playing for by watching their reactions as he goes to make the best fit set he can.
One thing that I always appreciate about Disco Lines, is in every set that he does, he always plays the famous “Love Story” mix which he can attribute a lot of his fame too. I think it is good when artists do this, no matter how old the song is because not only does it show appreciation for what they have grown from, but it also is good for the audience to better familiarize themselves with an artist by playing their original biggest tracks despite how every many hit they have had after.
Now, this is incredibly biased, but I always appreciate it when he adds the “Stay Fly” mix into his sets. I love Three 6 Mafia with everything in me, Juicy J enthusiast was my old Instagram bio, so it made me very happy that he had this in this set. I also believe it is going to be popular with any crowd so including this in his mix can better relate to an audience that doesn’t exactly know Disco Lines well.
As I finish this set, my opinion on it is that it is a very good mix between a set that would be performed at EDC with a good mix of Disco Lines’ usual vibe. There were the upbeat parts that I commonly consider to be a Disco Lines set but, there was a lot of the techno element which from other sets I think is common for EDC. Being able to engage an audience while remaining true to the work you consider to be more true to you is a hard balance to achieve, but he does a great job with it. Being so young and being able to do work like this is a good skill to have that will benefit him in his career because he understands how to make the best set he can for himself and his audience. Go listen to his live set on Soundcloud out now!
