HER LOSS

Drake and 21 Savage dropped one of the most anticipated albums of the year, and to be honest with you. They did not miss. The album titled Her Loss is already one of the biggest hits of 2022. This album came out about ten days ago and not a single song on the album does not have over ten million streams on Spotify. Absolutely incredible work from Drake and 21. There is also only one feature on the album, and for me a personal favorite, Travis Scott. In my work today, I will be seeing everyone else’s is having to say about this banger.

Nick Sligh for the Standford Daily outlaws what he believes are the hits and misses for this album. For the songs that missed he states, “‘Treacherous Twins’ is a disastrous moment, a horrible song in all aspects that must have been made strictly for college girls posting drunk Instagram stories with their best friends. ‘Circo Loco’ is another terrible track, packing corny bars and lame call-outs over awful production. ‘Hours in Silence’ was appropriately titled, as it almost put me to sleep the way that literal hours in silence would. I can sort of see what Drake was going for with ‘BackOutsideBoyz’ and ‘Jumbotron Shit Poppin,’ but the execution was just so far off.”. Now as for the hits off this album, Nick goes on to state “‘Middle of the Ocean’ was the highlight of the album; it showed Drake flowing smoothly over a refreshing soul beat. ‘Pussy & Millions,’ featuring Travis Scott, was another standout. The production was enjoyable, and every artist fit the track and meshed together nicely, resulting in an entertaining and feel-good hit. ‘More M’s,’ ‘Major Distribution’ and ‘Broke Boys’ were the only other songs that really executed, with quality trap production that situated 21 Savage in his comfort zone and allowed Drake to effectively highlight his versatility.”. This article I totally recommend if you just need an overall impression of the album instead of just diving into the whole project.

Now,  in exciting news, 21 and Drake took Taylor’s #1 Billboard spot. As stated in the Variety magazine article, “Drake and 21 Savage’s joint LP, “Her Loss,” enters the charts this week at No. 1 with the biggest first-week numbers for a hip-hop album in 2022”. Now, this is not a shock in my opinion. Drake has ran the rap industry for year so personally I am not too surprised his album went straight to the top. 21, although he hasn’t been around as long as Drake has, is still one of the biggest rappers at the moment so obviously when the two of them collaborate, it is going to go straight to the top.

Now, Complex Magazine provided the statistics for this album. In their article, they state “Per Billboard, Her Loss earned 404,000 equivalent album units, of which 391,000 consisted of SEA units, equaling 513.56 million on-demand streams of the set’s tracks. It’s the fourth-largest streaming week of all-time for any album.” as well as “Her Loss is 21’s third No. 1, while this is the 12th album from Drake to claim the top spot, putting him ahead of Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand and Taylor Swift, with only The Beatles (19) and Jay-Z (14) standing in his way for more number ones.”. These numbers, when you think about it are actually insane and especiall for Drake, as an artist, it is good to see such a continued positive reaction to his work.
