Abortions in the United States

As the new election comes about, abortion rises again as the subject that is the center of attention. After the recent overturn of Roe vs. Wade, abortion laws have come free for all. In this article, I will discuss where things are changing.

In the Des Moines Register, it is stated that the majority of Iowans are in support of keeping abortions legal in all cases. The article states “An overwhelming majority of Iowans want abortion to be legal in the case of rape or incest or to save the pregnant person’s life, a new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll found. Eighty-five percent of Iowans believe abortion should be legal in cases of rape or incest. Even more, 89%, support legal abortion if the pregnant person’s life is in danger. Even among those who say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases, 66% support exceptions for rape or incest and 75% support an exception if the pregnant person’s life is at risk.”. This, to me, is a plus because seeing any type of support to keep abortions legal is good.

In Florida, somehow, abortions are being pushed to stay legal. The Florida Bulldog states “The Florida Supreme Court’s interpretation of the privacy provision, laid out in a 1989 ruling that protects abortion, is at the heart of any serious discussion of state abortion law, according to former Chief Justice Harry Lee Anstead.”. So, due to one singular law, from what it appears, Florida may have to keep their abortions. This is also a plus in my head because abortions should not be banned.

As the new election comes about, abortion rises again as the subject that is the center of attention. After the recent overturn of Roe vs. Wade, abortion laws have come free for all. As it appears, Iowa and Florida will be keeping abotions legal, and we can only hope that it stays this way.
